You don't usually take your toddler to a museum to burn off energy, but the National Army Museum is an exception. Play base is made for children under 8 to do anything from a soft play assault course to roleplaying being a cook in the army.
Play Base consists of an assault course, command liaison vehicle, cookhouse, and quartermaster store, as well as an 'in field' unit. It's an unusual children's roleplay centre that covers elements of army life that may not usually occur to kids (or parents).
You do need to book in advance and there are 5 sessions per day Tues-Sun, starting at 10am and the last one starts at 4pm. Adults are admitted for free with a maximum of 2 children each (and no, unfortunately you can't have a go on the assault course yourself).
The rest of the museum features uniforms, vehicles, and glimpses into army life such as what it's like to be a soldier. The immersive theatre may not be suitable for little ones as young as 2-3 so you may want to check in on the collections ahead of time and plan your visit.
