Polka Children's Theatre is a child-centred experience that includes theatre productions, play areas, a dressing up and book corner, family-friendly café and sensory garden. It's unfair to simply call it a theatre, it's more of an inclusive community hub that provides children with early experiences of the theatre and fuels creativity.
If your child has additional needs or you're just worried about how they'll handle their first experience of a theatre, they've got you covered. There are audio described sessions, BSL interpreted sessions, captioned performances, and relaxed sessions that have lights on low levels, quieter sounds, and smaller audiences.
Given the sheer number of things to do, you can turn it into a full day trip with your little one without worrying about being overloaded or tired - if you need to retreat to a quiet corner, just ask a member of staff to help.
You can find their current performances on the site, which include (at the time of writing) Zoe's Peculiar Journey Through Time, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Nest, Under the Little Red Moon, and Oh No George, as well as a series of workshops for all ages.
